Job Location is Remote within the US

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide prompt, fair and effective claims service for insureds and claimants through the use of phone and correspondence. This position will primarily focus on advanced, large loss and complex liability claims. However, the position will not be limited to these lines. Assists supervisor with training and mentors new hires. Works within given authority, confirms coverage, establishes reserves utilizing established claims practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following (other duties may be assigned):

· Investigation of claims made by insureds and claimants. Including but not limited to proper coverage determination and/or liability determination, 24-hour contacts, taking of recorded statements. Evaluate and negotiate settlements including denial of claims either not covered or where no liability exists. Obtain proper forms and documents.

· Establishing and maintaining proper reserving throughout the life of the claim file. Maintain appropriate diary schedules of all claims in the care and custody of the adjuster. Evaluate estimates and bills for accuracy and applicability to coverage relating to the type of claims submitted.

· Complete all necessary reporting forms according to procedures on a daily basis. Entry of proper claim reserves, and claim payments. Maintain in chronological order; appropriate file notes on the system. Initiate subrogation and dispose of salvage according to established procedures.

· Inform the Underwriting Department of risk hazards discovered through the investigation of the claim. Advise supervisor immediately of all claims of a severe nature or exceeding settlement authority.

· Direct attorneys, independent adjusters and other vendor/experts on claims in litigation or that require outside assistance. Attend mediations and settlement conferences when warranted.

· Strictly adhere to all claim best practices and operate within set authority level.

· Assist in training of other personnel as directed and maintain a good working relationship with supervisors, associates, agents and the public.

· Participate as a thought partner by giving and receiving constructive feedback and championing innovation and continual process improvement

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in related field; must secure and maintain all necessary state adjuster licenses and CE credits
  • Experience:
  • Minimum: 5 years experience handling commercial lines claims
  • Preferred: 7-10 years experience handling commercial lines claims, Inland Marine claims experience is preferred

  • The position requires reasoning ability to examine and evaluate coverage and liability issues, examine and comprehend data furnished in written or oral form. Apply practical mathematical skills commonly used in the adjusting of property and casualty claims.
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external customers despite differing perspectives.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time are integral to success. Further, the ability to self-manage ones’ time.
  • The position requires specific audio, visual and hearing capabilities involved in the use of computers, telephone and other devices commonly used in an office environment.
  • Must be able to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which individual must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other team members accurately or quickly.
  • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection.
