For nearly 25 years, Citizen Schools has been a pioneer in educational equity. Since opportunity, unlike talent, is not equally distributed, we have provided hands-on learning experiences that ignite curiosity, build confidence and expand horizons for over 50,000 underrepresented middle school students. Together with our partners, including 25,000 career mentors, we have exposed students to ideas and connections, helping them access even better opportunities than previous generations.
Today, we engage underserved students in hands-on learning, in school and after school. Our students are creators and problem-solvers, not just consumers. They become scientists, artists, mathematicians, engineers, writers, and programmers. We also apply best practices from our direct service work to systems-level advancement of STEM mentorship and learning by working with communities.
Together we are transforming education in school, after school, and across communities.
The Grant Writing and Development Operations Coordinator (GWDOC) will join a six-person team of fundraisers who support Citizen Schools in strengthening relationships with foundation, corporate, and individual funders across the country. The GWDOC’s primary responsibility will be to collaborate with other members of the national External Engagement Team to develop compelling grant proposals and effective reports for funders, as well as conduct prospect research and perform operational duties related to fundraising (such as gift recognition, opportunity management, donor communications). The GWDOC role includes research (internal and external), writing, editing, project management, consultation and coaching, and mastery of a variety of systems for tracking documents and information.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with strong writing/editing, communication, and organizational skills and an interest in educational equity who is seeking to build additional proficiency in project and relationship management, operations, and development strategy. As part of a team that completes hundreds of writing projects each year, the GWDOC will support a critical and highly valued organizational function and will use his/her/their understanding of Citizen Schools’ strategy, program model, evaluation strategies, financial and operational structure, and policy efforts in order to advance Citizen Schools’ mission through funder communication.
This position reports to the Director of Grant Strategy within Citizen Schools’ National External Engagement Team and is preferably based in Boston, NYC, Bay Area, or Houston, but remote work locations will be considered.
