Slack is on a mission to make people’s working lives simpler, more pleasant and more productive. We’re looking for a skilled, curious marketer and wordsmith to join our fast-growing Marketing organization as a staff writer, based in San Francisco or remote.
This role requires top-notch editorial, project management and interpersonal skills. You’re a storyteller who loves your craft and relishes finding just the right word. You create content that’s human and relatable, without corporate jargon. And while you revel in a clever turn of phrase, you put clarity first.
Content marketing is a critical driver of growth for Slack’s business. From producing content for our award-winning blog to developing in-depth case studies, data reports and marketing materials that enable our sales team, our staff writers play an essential role in growing awareness of Slack and showcasing its value for enterprise decision makers and end users alike.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, why not say hello?
What you’ll accomplish:
Help millions of people discover a better way of working. You’ll research and write engaging short- and long-form features for demand-generation campaigns, sales enablement kits, the Slack blog and resources library, and other outlets targeted at key personas. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on significant data-driven projects and multi-channel marketing campaigns.
Shape the Slack narrative. You’ll leverage relevant research to understand the needs of potential and current Slack customers, and use that data to generate compelling story ideas.
Become an expert on the future of work. You’ll identify and dive deep into industry trends influencing collaboration, productivity, automation and digital transformation.
Connect with multiple audiences. You’ll write content that connects with and inspires leaders in engineering, sales, support, IT, marketing and more.
Develop a reputation for crisp, clean, punctual copy. You’ll have a self-driven process for researching and reporting content while meeting fast-paced deadlines and quick turnarounds when necessary. Of course, our team of staff editors will guide and support you along the way.
Learn, maintain and develop the voice of Slack. We avoid “marketing speak” in favor of communicating in a way that is clear, concise and human.
Spread the virtue of your craft. You’ll be an active and available peer mentor for other writers, and contribute to our positive and collaborative team culture.
What you’ll need:
5+ years of experience* developing high-quality content that spurs conversation and drives action. This could include bylined articles, landing page copy, sales enablement materials, e-books, case studies, copywriting, SEO content and more. We’re eager to review your portfolio.
A clear appreciation of the different audiences Slack speaks to, and how to tailor messaging for each one
Exceptional communication, prioritization, project- and time-management skills
A keen eye for detail—you know exactly when to break out a style guide
Success working cross-functionally on integrated marketing campaigns
Experience strategizing persona-driven demand-generation and/or product marketing content
Nice to haves:
Experience writing for technical audiences, such as engineering and IT, or a keen interest in doing so
Journalistic and/or B2B SaaS background
Familiarity with content management systems and tools
An interest in words that live beyond the “page” (video scripts, podcasting, talk tracks, etc.)
What’s more important to us than a number is the skills you’ve developed, regardless of the length of time it took to get where you are. Do you have 15+ years of experience? Great! Please apply. Have only two years but feel you meet the requirements above? We look forward to hearing from you.
